. nbc's miguel almaguer is on the scene. miguel, what can you tell us? >> reporter: matt, good morning. at least 75 people were rushed to the hospital overnight, some of them injured critically. we know at least one person is dead, although that number may rise. some 53 homes were completely destroyed. more than 100 others damaged. it's believed the explosion may have been caused by a ruptured gas line. and as one witness said here, they described the scene as "hell on earth." the explosion ripped through san bruno just before 7:00 local time, the dinner hour in this suburb just south of san francisco. a blast so violent, some thought it was an earthquake, or worse, a jetliner crash. it was neither. >> i went out and seen this big fireball. first thing i thought was, oh, god, something went up, and it was intense with flames. >> reporter: a monster, gas-fed fireball with flames shooting as high as 100 feet into the air was burning so hot, it obscured everything around it. asphalt melted, windows shattered, the sky turned black and the sound, what witnesses describe as a roaring and a g

is really making her presence felt in the state next to us here in texas. twisters touched down in and around the city of dallas. that's where the weather channel's julie martin is joining us from this morning. julie, good morning to you. what's the latest? >> well, good morning, matt. hermine made for a very wild weather day here in texas, from flash flooding to tornadoes. it really left its mark, and unfortunately, it is not finished just yet. i want to take you now to some images from the evening rush hour last night here in dallas, as twisters just started dropping out of the sky, as many as six funnels reported throughout the area. one of them slicing right through the heart of the city, hitting many buildings, bringing up water mains, and also knocking out power to thousands of people. one of the most impressive images, an 18-wheeler literally picked up, flipped 180 degrees with the driver inside, and slammed into the very building i am standing in front of. that driver, by the way, is doing all right this morning. but before all of that widespread flash flooding throughou

find more democrats to come out. when you look at our poll, the folks that tell us they're not likely to vote, they actually approve of the president's job with 75% approval rating. these are minorities and young voters. they have no interest in this election, if they get interested, they could close that gap. >> how do you get them interested? >> look, that's what the president's trying to do. here's what's odd. turnout goes up, people get enthusiastic about voting when they're unhappy. this small slice of voters, it's only 10% of the electorate, they're happy with the president, they're happy with democrats so they don't see a reason to get off their keisters and go out and vote right now. maybe that will change, but i'll be honest, our pollsters tell us it's very unlikely. >> let's take a look at who voters want to control congress. and the poll shows there's a tie, 43% of all responders would like to see democrats hold congress, 43% would like to see republicans gain control of congress. but when you boil that down to likely voters, the republicans have a 9 point advantage. >> let
